Steps for New Singers Who are Interested in
Joining the Chorale:

We are delighted you are considering becoming a member of our Northern Virginia Community Chorale.

Here are the steps to follow to become a member:

1.) Contact us by email or telephone, indicating you interest in joining.
Our email address is: info@northernvirginiachorale.org. Additionally, you may contact our Vice President, Dick Marvin, directly.

His phone numbers is: (H) 703-503-2259
.

2.)
Please let us know a little bit about:

a. Your singing experience — i.e., do you have three years in a local church choir, or other related experience?

b. What your vocal range is —
are you a Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Baritone/Bass?

and

c.
How you found out about us — i.e., through the Internet or our website, word-of-mouth, or a recommendation from another local musical group?

3.)
Join us for our next audition on January 9, 2011. Our rehearsal will be at 7:30 p.m. Please participate with us in the rehearsal, then you will meet with our director, Bob Webb, after the rehearsal for a brief audition in the Fellowship Hall, which is located in the basement of St. Mark’s LutheranChurch at:

5800 Backlick Road in Springfield, Virginia, 22150

Our artistic director will check out your vocal range by having you sing some basic scales and melodies in the privacy of a one-on-one setting. He may also ask you to select a song from an American song book such as My County ‘Tis of Thee, and sing a portion of it.

Please note, we have a wide range of musical experience among our chorale members. Some were past music majors in college, while others have taken up choral singing later in their life. To give you a feel for the concert standards our director expects of us, please visit the YouTube section of our website, and view/listen to some of our past, live choral performances. It should also be noted that our director enables us to reach the high standards of excellence in our concert performances by teaching us “how to sing effectively in a choral setting.”

4.)
Our rehearsals occur every Monday evening from 7:30 – 9:45 p.m. at St. Mark’s, except on holidays. If your schedule does not allow you to join us on August 22nd, then come the following Monday night, on August 29th or as soon as possible in September. Please inform us of your intent, and join us as soon as time permits on a Monday evening in September, except for Labor Day September 5th, when there is no rehearsal. Mr. Webb will check out your vocal range and abilities following the rehearsal.

Typically, the chorale conducts three home concerts per season. The first occurs in early December, followed by a March and a May concert. Typically we begin rehearsing in late August to prepare for our December Holiday Concert. Then, in early January, we resume practice for our remaining two concerts of the year, closing out our home concert program in May.

Chorale rehearsals involve a two-hour weekly rehearsal when the chorale is in session. Rehearsals take place promptly every Monday night from 7:30 to 9:45 in the Fellowship Hall located in the basement of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, located at 5800 Backlick Road, in Springfield.

*
During the week prior to a concert’s performance, additional rehearsals may be held as well as a dress rehearsal on Friday evening, prior to the Saturday evening full performance.

* Please visit our Contact Us/Directions page for directions
